The Overlooked Privilege of Souls

“The Privilege of Souls” souls can not be spoken for
but we can have the privilege of learning one
and it is with such knowledge
that over time with acquaintances, you feel your hearts become “one”
sometimes the people we have the closest
do not have the souls we desire
but the unknown man on the street
somehow lit a fire
in the back of your mind
you have underlined
the knowledge of their eyes
to be so great
that your world has expanded
and so imagine what our world could then be
should we give everyone a strong look in their eyes
if every soul was a true democracy
if we ventured so far as to not listen to persuasion and platforms
but we took advantage of the privilege that exists to know a soul
such as my words on this paper
a poet and a woman
who in her soul believes
words can change someone's world
the world
and all of our
flames may be one ignited by the fuel my pen sets to this paper
my flint is the
ink and the outcome, the steel
and so exists the heart that you guard
from this cruel world
