Florida's Utopia

It’s 2023 and I still can’t see 

How anyone can believe they live in the land of the free. 

As I look at the map of red 

All I see is the insufferable objective: 

Students will learn that slavery gave the enslaved skills that benefitted them instead. 

 

Where do we go from here? 

When not even our future children hold dear 

The histories of those who lived in constant dread. 

Or the Genocides committed. 

Or the forced assimilation. 

Or the separation of families. 

Or the discriminatory laws. 

Or the deaths of thousands. 

 

Nobody will know true history. 

Nobody will know reality. 

The only thing they will know is that: 

“Slaves developed skills, which in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit.”
